Course Reflection

This is the end of class. In the class, when we have something confused, Dr. Wang always explain it to us patiently in Chinese, it helps us to know how to operation the tools better. I feel very proud of you each time when I view partners in our group blogfolios, which documents our achievements in the past few days.This is a new and fantastic teaching method because we have no need to look toward the blackboard and every one has a big screem to learn the knowledge.

I want list three tools I like most and will surely use them in my teaching. They are Padlet, Classdojo and Powtoon. ClassDojo can help manage students’ behaviors in class and connect students in a community. And parents could know what things their children have done in the class. This kind of software makes the teachers and parents communicate much easier. padlet can facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity. Drawing on the wisdom of the masses is as important as group work. While I share a electronic white board with a clear theme, children can try their best to create more ideas. Using this tools we can enhance the communication among the whole
class and promote their friendship with others. Children like the cartoon characters very much, and the time of their attention is very limited, but if we change the way of teaching, use the lovely video to teach them the knowledge, they can easily be caught the attention and aroused the enthusiasm. What’s more, we can combine the Powtoon and the wordpress together.

However, I will not use testmoz, Rubric and survey. Because they are all in English and hard for me o fine all functions easily. Besides, I think preschool students don’t need any quiz, test and survey due to they should develop in their own ways.

There are some things that I felt should be avoided or improved for group work. For example, I am to shame to take part in the team, I should be more open, try to join in more and express more thoughts. My English is not very well so I don’t like to talk English in daily life, but English is real very important so I need to practice more. Furthermore, I need to have more patient when I meet trouble. I should to solve it instead of avoid it.

In this class, I am very hard-working and finish my part perfectly. Also, I helped my group leader to do many jobs and gave her my suggestions. I learn a lot,and I want to be a good Chinese teacher who can master the American teaching methods.

Day Seven

Online Questionnaire, Worksheet, and Quizzes

Today we were asked to create a quiz to assess our learning outcomes and we used several tools to help us like rubistar, wenjuanxing, and testmoz.Testmoz.com can create quiz online for freeand have four types of questions we can use. I think it is easy forus to create a quiz and share it online or print it on hard copies.

The function of the questionnaire is very much regardless of the industry, occupation and role you are in.The questionnaire can help you to complete online survey, research and information collection and other complex work easily. For example: government, schools, teachers, students, e-commerce, online games, marketing, market research or corporate HR. And it has 32 types of questions, such as: single election, multiple choice, matrix, sorting, scale, proportion, form, file upload, etc. By using the logic of association logic, the logic of reference, and the logic of fault, the complex relationship between the topic choices is realized.

I will use this tool to create some survey to know some problem and situation about my students if I become a teacher. And according to the survey, I can design a best lesson plan for my students.

I suppose that this can met the fifth standard of the ISTE standard. It is because that It can provide evaluate an reflect on current research and professional practice. This can make the classroom more efficient.

Day Six

Video Editing

Today, my teacher discussed Enhancing Teaching and Learning Through the Use of Digital Story-telling. I know what digital story is, how it is used in classroom.It is the the practice of combining narrative with digital content, including images, sound, and video, to create a short movie, typically with a strong emotional component.We use digital story-tellingn classroom teaching and learning since it has some advantages like providing more variation than traditional in current practice, personalize learning experience, the most important is that can improve the involvement of students in the process of learning.

I choose “Powtoon” to edit my video. It is easy to use this tool because every button is clear for us to find, and you can find a lot of setting you can edit on your videos. During editing my movie, I encounted some problems that I can’t add slide transitions, but with my partners’s help, I found that, and add some slide transitions.

In my opinion, I think it’s very helpful to use the videos in class teaching. Since it’s more vivid and attractive. Students may be more interested in the video than the words. So, it’s very important fou us to learn how to edit the videos, we can use many kinds of tools like Windows Movie Maker, Microsoft Photo Story 3 and so on.

From this class I learn a lot technology about how to cut and put videos, how to record an audio and upload it into Internet. I think this class is real useful for our future teaching life.

Day Five

Audio Editing

Today we were asked to create a audio file to teach the content in the lesson plan. In the courses of audio editing, I use the app in my phone as a tool to create my audio, save it in MP3 format, upload to pan.baidu.com, share the file with everyone with the link.

On creating the audio file, I used the voice memos in my mobile phone to record, because it is convenient and easy I think.The biggest problem with recording audio is that it’s too noisy and my voice and music are very out of focus.

We know there are several tools for us to use, like wevedio, POWTOON.Since i am not familiar the procedure of the senior software and the most imortantly is the software PowToon. It’s network is too slow to work. i would like to combine audio and video materials to my teaching class. Since video can arouse children interest and can have a more clear illustration of the content.It is noy only help children understant knowlege more clearly but also leave a deep impression on their mind.

Day Four

Today, we have learnt that how to create a course site based on our lesson plan.Web page is the page people can search for information and pictures. And there are several links on one web page.

You can know a lot of information on the website. There are many pictures, videos words on the website.Since we have a lot of work to do,so we need to plan our site with a storyboard ahead of time. And each one in the group has different kinds of work need to do. Some of us needs to establish a website, some of us need to find some videos and ppt to finish the website.

I think it connect one of the ISTE Standards——”Design and develop digital age
learning experiences and assessments”. It is mentioned that “Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital age media and formats” on this point. For example, I creat a website about my teaching plan, my students’ parents will see that, they will get to know what we will do in class, and what should they do to help study, such as the materials they should prepare and so on.

My experience with class management software: classdojo

classdjClassdojo is free online software, which helps manage students’ behaviors in class and connect students in a community. Parents can also view the class and get to know what students did in class and how they did their work. Currently, classdojo added new functions so that students can upload their projects, share movies, conduct discussions, and others. ClassDojo can be regarded as a set of management of student oriented  game system.Just follow the rules set after the teacher, students can score like a game upgrade, and class management is a game designed by the teacher to the student management system, ClassDojo has become a game participation by all students.It can not only record the students’ performance, but also use the game method to score and evaluate the students, so as to encourage the students to improve.I will set up a set of my own behavior and rewards and punishments, different from others. And I will connect parents with the class and make them part of the team. The students in the classroom performance is good, such as smiling, speak, answer the question is very new, can get extra points; on the contrary, if the students in the classroom or talk, leave the seat,  will be reduced.

Integrating electronic white board in classroom teaching

padlet Padlet is an electronic white board, where we can post text, audio, video, file, website links, and take photos if a webcam is embeded.And the introduction we made also can cause others’ interests.We can share something we want share on this online broad and decorate it.Some people whoever you know or not can read the broad you wrote.

It is useful in classroom teaching because of it’s ibility to post almost everything on it. With the electronic white board students can post their assignments on it and it can be seen clearly. You only need to share it with students by sending the URL or embed it in blog or website once you create it. This kind of technology will improve the work efficiency and it can make less mistakes than the traditional handing homework’s ways.In my point, padlet can facilitate and inspire students learning and creativity. Because students can deliver their real thoughts on the padlet.padlet will help our students become more and more open-minded.

My understanding on the flipped classroom

1.What is the flipped classroom model?

The flipped classroom inverts traditional teaching methods, delivering instruction online outside of class and moving “homework” into classroom. Teacher’s role in the traditional classroom is that sage on the stage. And teacher’s role in the flipped classroom is that guide on the side.

2. As a college student, do you want your professors to use this method? Why?

I want my professors to use this method. Because i can watch lectures at home at my own pace, communicating with peers and teachers via online discussions.Concept engagement takes place in the classroom with the help of the instructor.It helps increase my understanding and promotes learning enthusiasm.

3. If you teach a class, with you use this method? Why?

I will. Because first it is easy for students to catch up with missed work. Second it is easy for students to learn the content at their own pace. Third it can reduce students’ anxiety about homework. Fourth it provide more time and opportunity for interaction. Last it can make students have more individualized learning.

4. What was challenging about creating this lesson plan?

I think the challengings of flipped classroom are following. First teachers don’t know that can student supervise themselves with more flexible time to learn online? Second teachers’ guidance role becomes weaker than traditional classrooms. Third teachers cannot ensure that every student has watched the videos before class, so they cannot promise their students’ progress. Fourth student could not form more ideas on their own. Fifth if a student takes multiple flipped classes, she or he needs more hours for watching videos every night. Last not all students have convenient access to mobile devices and the Internet so that flipped classrooms can cause further digital division.

6. What did you learn from this project?

Flipped Classroom brings a new teaching method to schools. It helps increase students’ understanding and promotes learning enthusiasm.To achieve the best result, teachers have to be well-prepared for the class, especially the in-class activities, which should be closely related to the videos students viewed before class. Flipped classroom model required more working time from teachers; therefore, it is very important for teachers to have good time management skills.

7. What was challenging about creating this project?

It could be not suitable for every student.

Yes, it is. Because its speed and effect can be the fastest. And it is convenient for designers and working men to get  the result. It can carry out an objective data analysis.At last, designer can collect the data to make the final result. So, i think it is easy to use.

9. How will you be able to use this tool?

Making the headline of the survey. Designing the questions for the survey. Collecting the data to make the result. Through the data,discussing with the group member again. After discussing ,comprehensive analysis of objective and subjective factors, draw the final conclusion.

I am Ni Qing Yun. My English name is Jay. I was born in Shanghai. I graduate from senior high school and major in English. I started learning English since I was 12 years old.
